I knew one had been skipping Malay lessons and it got infected by very few. One once entered into my class telling me to take him in. I cannot because its not ethical to just take another teacher's student in just cause his frens are in my class and he likes it better with them. I told the others that since they are all in sec 5 and 4E, i will not go around chasing them or scold them for homework and even attend lessons. They all should know that they are studying to take 'O' level examinations and enter polytechnic or any tertiaty institutes other than ITE. That statement was especially intended to my sec 5 who was in my class last year. They should have known my style and that is not to enforce or share my knowledge with those who dont want to. 4 of my sec 5 students had to break my heart doing that. It definitely pisses me off to have them being escorted to my class by the discipline master. It totally sicken me that i am instructed to inform their form teacher and ensure that they have a bad mark on their BETA record. Their unwelcome reason was expectedly futile. She said that the other teacher had not been teaching them except giving exercises. Thats totally lame because every Weds, i freakin well teach them and why weren't they in my class? Wat about the other 2 who are under my care? Why they have skipped my class twice? Do they think i am sumkinda stupid nut case that are not aware of their real intention? I was furious but i didnt burst neurotically infront of them. I just talked calmly and told them that they are just doing all these retaliation or wadeva it is to jeorpadize their own future.
Do i question myself as a teacher? Ajmal had been the weakest student since N level but his diligence and patience, made him a deservable one to have his Malay slowly improving. He had top the class in two tests. Melia is another one who was very weak in Malay but she too had shown improvements and manage to be one of the top students for the recent class test. Frankly, i dont think its much about the question of me being a good teacher or not. I have always been there, teaching and explaining. Raising my voice to be heard and explaining in both languages to make them understand. Sumtimes, i felt like a fool talking to them but when results came...i realized that this fool was understood. I told the other four, its all up to them. Their future lies on their shoulder because they all are almost adult being 17 and 18 years old now. Any learning difficulties can be solved by asking me or confiding in me. Its all efforts made by them in finding ways to study and not complaint plus running away from the problem. Find a solution and not expect situation to accomodate to their own wants. I told them if that teacher dont teach enough, they can always come to me after school and ask me about academic qs. Last year, i had my 4T coming to me for Science, Math and Malay. They should knoe freaking well that i will make time and always rectify their confusion in studies. Its totally disappointing to see my two smarties and two not so bad weakies hiding in their class during Malay lesson. Utterly a disappointment.
